First of all, not all the frameworks write their versions under the "Policy" branch. For example, I have Framework 3.5 on my Windows XP, but in "Policy" branch there are only v1.1 and v2.0. Maybe, the better approach is to cycle through "Software\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP" branch?
